Chinnakavanam is the birth place of Ramalinga Adigalar’s mother and Adigalar lived here between 1824 and 1826. The house of Ramalinga Adigalar’s mother is still being maintained by his followers in this Village.The house is located at about 300 meters from Chinnakavanam Bus Stop, 1.5 Kms from Ponneri, 3 Kms from Ponneri Bus Depot, 2 Kms from Ponneri Railway Station, 9 Kms from Thatchoor, 10 Kms from Thirupalaivanam, 14 Kms from Minjur, 18 Kms from Pulicat, 8 Kms from Perumbedu, 17 Kms from Gummudipoondi, 51 Kms from Thiruvallur, 39 Kms from Chennai and 51 Kms from Chennai International Airport


Chinnakavanam is located to the east of Ponneri touching the Ponneri town en route Pulicat.When you take the Kolkata highways, you will come across the Karanodai bridge and immediately after, the Tollgate. Go beyond that in the same direction till Thatchur Cross road and turn right (east) towards Ponneri. After crossing the Ponneri town continue towards Pulicat and you will encounter the Rail under-bridge first and then a road bridge over the Brahma Aranya river. Immediately after the bridge the Chinna Kavanam village starts.The house is on the right side on an adjoining lane.Town buses and autos are available frequently from Ponneri.

Arulmigu Thiru Agatheeswarar Temple

அருள்மிகு அகத்தீஸ்வரர் கோவில் , பொன்னேரி 

Ponneri has an ancient temple for Lord Shiva by which is said to be over 2500 years old. The main deity here is Sri Agastheeswarar and Goddess Sri Anandavalli.

According to the legend, the Lord here is said to have been worshipped by the ancient sage Sri Agasthiyar himself. The ancient name of this place is Kumbamuni Mangalam. Sage Agasthiar is also known as Kumbamuni, as he once collected the whole of river Cauvery into his holy pot (Kamandalam) to bring down the force of the river.


It is said that Sage Agasthiar had stayed in this place for years while he was travelling in the Southern part of India. Sage Agasthiyar was caught with severe stomach ache while he was passing this side and he found this temple, stayed here and worshipped the Lord to get relieved of his pain. The Lord who was pleased with his prayers appeared to him and relieved him from his pains.


Since, sage Agasthiyar worshipped the Lord here; the God came to be known as Sri Agatheeswarar. One can see a lot of temples in this part of Tamilnadu in which the main deity Lord Shiva is called as Agastheeswarar. It is said that Sage Agasthya installed and worshipped about 108 Shiva Lingas in various places here and the 108th Shiva Linga being Sri Ashtotheeswarar (or Nootretteeswarar which means 108th Shiva) at Chinnakkaavanam near this town Ponneri.

The temple is built on a very vast land and is highly scenic and beautiful, which has stood strong across centuries. The temple is facing east and has a wonderful 3 tiered Rajagopuram which welcomes us into the temple.

Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary is a sanctuary for birds, 759 km2 in area, located in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh and a protected area of the Thiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu, India


Fauna

பழவேற்காடு ஏரி பறவைகள் காப்பகம் (Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary) தமிழ் நாட்டின் திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள பறவைகள் காப்பகம் ஆகும். பழவேற்காடு ஏரியின் மொத்த பரப்பளவு 481 சதுர கிமீ ஆகும். இதில் 153.67 சதுர கி.மீ. தமிழ்நாட்டின் எல்லையிலும், எஞ்சிய பகுதி ஆந்திர பிரதேசத்திற்கு உட்பட்ட நெல்லூர் மாவட்டத்திலும் அமைந்துள்ளது.

இந்த ஏரியின் நடுப்பகுதியின் அளவு  . இப்பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட பகுதியில் 108 சதுர கி.மி தேசிய பூங்காவாகும். இவ்விடத்தின் வருடாந்திர மழை பொழிவு 800 - 2000 மில்லி மீட்டர். தட்பவெப்பம் 14° to 33° செல்லியசு. இந்த ஏரி கடல் மட்டத்திலிருந்து 100’ to 1200’ மீட்டர் உயரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது.
